. . .and so it was written in the ancient tomes by He Who First Walked in the Garden: a divided kingdom will reunite under a child who has been wrought from the two worlds. Empowered by Upland reason and underground magyck, this child will restore peace to the divided kingdom, but only after facing his archrival, his blood shadow, and triumphing over the darkness. –the Dryad Prophecies
Orphaned shortly after his birth, and left on his Aunt Christina and Uncle Wil’s doorstep, Jack is the only tie Christina has to her estranged sister, Meredith, who disappeared seventeen years earlier. At sixteen, Jack is a dreamer and lover of the forest. He is everything his Uncle Wilhelm never wanted in a son, and whenever there’s work to be done in the fields, Jack has a habit of making himself scarce by slipping into the peace and comfort of the woods.
Though he loves his Aunt Chrissie more than anything, Jack longs for the truth about the mother and father he never knew. Aunt Chrissie rarely speaks of her sister, and as far as Jack knows, his mother’s dead. Why else would she leave him on Aunt Chrissie’s doorstep with nothing more than an unsigned letter in her sister’s handwriting that said nothing more than: “Please care for my son Jack.”
Underground, the Faerie world withdraws further into darkness and shadow, as the Goblin King, Kothar continues to reign. The queen he brought to his castle once shined like a beacon of hope for his downtrodden subjects, but the loss of her first child darkened her spirit. Not even the birth of the goblin prince, Krayven, was enough to brighten her spirits, and they say she stands in solitude day after day searching the Nether Lake for signs of the lost Hunter who was swallowed by the Ancient One who guards the veil between worlds.
Starved of his mother’s love, Krayven will do anything to get her attention. When his father leads him to the truth about the queen’s first son, Krayven ventures Upland to find the half-brother who stole his mother’s love. There is no joy in this task, only loathing and jealousy that drives him to piece together a vengeful plan to punish his mother and the son she should never have given birth to.
Drawn into the woods by a mischievous sprite named Liban, Jack finds himself lured Underground and into the faerie realm on the very morning he promised his uncle he would help him tend to the field. Jack knows he shouldn’t follow her. He has let Uncle Wil down so much in the past, but Liban insists that her friend knows how to find Jack’s parents, and together they will show him the way through the Darknjan Wald.
A simple quest to find his parents reveals that there is more to Jack than meets the eye. He is the Hunter’s son, Jack of the Green, and Sylvanus’ soldiers have been watching and waiting for him to return to take his father’s place.
Their capture on the edge of Ambiance Grove reveals secrets and dark intentions so powerful that the silent war between kingdoms grows to an inevitable roar. The fae are tired of living in darkness and fear, and the shimmering prophecy that walks into their world is proof enough that they must fight. In the end, there can be only one kingdom, and Jack is meant to rule it.
Jack in the Green, the exciting sequel to Goblin Market, will begin this July. Stay tuned…
