The Commitment Report

It’s been another busy week on the commitment front, as I spent the majority of my creative time formatting and editing the From the Dark Side anthology. I just finished adding the final story Saturday night and it looks beautiful. There are twenty contributors to the anthology, some names you’ll be sure to recognize, like Kate Sherrod, Jake Bible, Drew Beatty, James Melzer… even our Podcaturday partner, Acadia Einstein whipped up a sonnet to contribute to the charity anthology.

Now that I’m finished with first round edits, I’m going to take a day off to work on a bit of vampire fiction I’m writing for the Dark Journeys Short Story Collection called “The Farm.” Tomorrow after work, I will tackle edits on the anthology again, hopefully wrapping it up so I can send it off to Drew Beatty for a final proofread. While Drew is proofreading, I am going to put together the author bio page and the introduction, which means I should have a release date to share with you guys by tomorrow afternoon.

From the Dark Side, for those of you who haven’t heard about the project, is a charity anthology the twenty contributors were kind enough to donate their short fiction and poetry to. Once it’s all pretty and shiny, it will go on sale electronically on Amazon and Smashwords, and all proceeds earned from the anthology will be donated to The Office of Letters and Light, a charity organization dedicated to promoting creative achievement among children and adults.

As well as wrapping up final edits, I will be putting together a press packet this week for everyone interested in helping us spread the word about the anthology. More details to come about that Monday, June 28, along with the planned release date, so be sure to check back into the blog tomorrow to learn more.

In other commitment news, I released the tenth story in the Dark Journeys Short Story Collection, ‘The Handy Man,’ on Friday morning. I really love this story. It’s something different from me, and those who have already read the story are saying good things about it. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, sample an excerpt here, and if you’re intrigued, you can get a copy of the full text on Amazon and Smashwords.

Edits on Goblin Market are coming along slowly, as I’ve focused all my energy this last week on finishing up the formatting and edits on From the Dark Side, and once I get that wrapped up, I’ll be diving into Farrago, the Bekemeyer Anthology Project, which Michael and I are tentatively looking to release early August.

I am still working on Jack in the Green, though much like Goblin Market, going has been slow, as I’ve focused on editing the anthologies. I am still hoping to get the introduction for Jack in the Green recorded so I can release it in July, as promised.

I feel a little like Willy Wonka this morning, as I reflect on all I’ve got going on right now. So little to do, so much time. STOP! Strike that. Reverse it… But it’s a good feeling. I am so excited about the upcoming anthology release and can’t wait to get Jack in the Green going.

I hope you’re having a great week, and you managed to get done everything you planned to do. If not, take a deep breath today and remind yourself tomorrow is another day and all your projects will be right there waiting for you to tackle them.

See you next Sunday!
