From the Dark Side Anthology: Day One Report

As most of you know, we released From the Dark Side: A Charity Anthology yesterday on Amazon and Smashwords. The anthology contains twenty pieces of fiction and poetry, generously donated by nineteen authors and poets. Our goal: to raise money to donate to The Office of Letters and Light, the people who bring us NaNoWriMo, ScriptFrenzy and host Young Writers online boot camps to foster creativity in today’s youth.
Being the ambitious minx I am, I set a lofty goal to sell 100 copies on our first day out, which would have yielded a day one donation to our charity of just around $386.00. A couple of my closest friends said, “Jenny, you’re setting your sights too high and you will wind up disappointed.”
And they were right. I did set my day one goal too high… BUT that’s okay. Instead of wallowing in defeat, I’ve adjusted my goal to 100 copies sold by the end of Sunday, July 11 at 11:59 p.m. ET. I really believe we can do it because I believe in the people who contributed to the anthology and their work, and I believe the entire endeavor is worthwhile. I want to get the anthology out there to as many people as possible because not only do we raise a decent chunk of money for a cause many of us consider worthy, but it helps all the contributors reach a wider audience in the long run.
So… what did our numbers look like at the end of Day One? Well, we sold a grand total of 29 copies of From the Dark Side at $4.99 each. After Amazon and Smashwords take their cut, we managed to raise $104.34 to donate to The Office of Letters and Light on our very first day out.
That ROCKS!
As always, my mind is in overdrive mode. I’ve shifted some of my focus toward Farrago: The Michael Bekemeyer Project, but I will be pimping From the Dark Side as long as I have breath in my body.
Thank you to everyone who reached out and bought a copy of From the Dark Side; we hope you enjoy it. Also, a big thank you to those who helped spread the word to the people they know. Working as a group to get the word out there will make all the difference in the world, and you all definitely stepped up to the plate to help out… even if it meant RTing my mad Twitter and Facebook pushes yesterday or simply not unfollowing me because I was a constant promotional tweet machine.

No, $104 isn’t shabby. I think that’s pretty damn awesome.
I did have an idea of another way we could get the word out there. I’ll email you about and see what you and Melzer think, since it involves TCA.
